Situs ini diawali dari komunitas yang saling berbagi kisah di milis AirPutih (www.airputih.tk), kami tergerak untuk menyumbangkan sedikit yang kami bisa untuk musibah bangsa di Aceh dan sekitarnya.

Lalu melalui situs ini, yang awalnya adalah kumpulan kisah dari milis AirPutih, mencoba menggalang bantuan dari berbagai pihak baik dari kalangan industri, pendidikan maupun pemerintahan di dalam maupun luar negeri serta membantu menyalurkannya ke pihak-pihak yang menjadi korban musibah di NAD dan Sumatera Utara.

Kami juga memberangkatkan tim ke lokasi musibah untuk menyalurkan bantuan. Selain itu, kami memiliki 2 misi khusus. Pertama, membangun media centre, sebagai pusat informasi demi updating berita yang real time. Kedua, membangun jalur komunikasi darurat berbasis IT.

The Indonesian Information Technology (IT) community wishes to facilitate the relief efforts to our brothers and sisters in Aceh (Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam, NAD), North Sumatra and other affected parts of the Indian Ocean which were devastated hit by this disaster.

Through this website, we aim to:

1.

Facilitate the information flows in order to speed up the mobilization of assistance and relief efforts from all sources -- industry, government, academia, community groups or individuals -- both domestic and international.
2.

Support our field team in Aceh and North Sumatra to set up an Internet-based communication system so that the most up-to-date information can be accessed quickly.
3.
Provide back-up assistance for the distribution of all goods and services to the victims and survivors.

The Background of Post-Tsunami IT Initiative

Before the Tsunami struck Aceh, Air Putih was nothing but merely a smallsize IT group. However, thought of helping the Tsunami victim, and to minimize further loss of life, the group became the first IT group that contemplated to assist according to its field of expertise. And despite spurt of fear transfixed us when we knew how the Tsunami running amok killing thousands of people, to procrastinate watching our friends in Aceh dying would only left us with nothing but guilt.

Then with whatever equipments and supplies available donated by friends and colleagues, and small number of members of Air Putih Team impromptu dispatched to Aceh, the team was able to initiate wireless connectivity to the community, especially in Banda Aceh.

We called it "community" because we do not have any agenda of procuring the network infrastructure for our business interest, and our definition of community is that it is the public who owns the infrastructure collectively.

Seeing the exigency of having an information center that is able to give warning and preemptive measures to anticipate upcoming disaster, AirPutih established

Also, a reason of why the team needed to immediately establish such connectivity is that so many organizations had been helping Aceh without well-coordinated teamwork.

And we hope our access points located in Aceh will evince the public how serious we are in helping the Acehnese.

One of many examples to help other organizations through IT is we have given and will keep giving free accounts to each organization - newly affiliated with us - so that it can login to our network and upload any data it has compiled to the official website.

Relentless endeavor of augmenting the network connectivity has brought us to a higher step in which the team has to evolve into another entity – Air Putih Foundation.

However distinct our effort from other organizations’ is, we deeply believe that other organizations also did and are still doing their best according to what they could possibly contribute in helping the victims. Therefore, we do not intend to take all the credits, not even saying that we have better feat than others’.

But we do invite all organizations - governmental and nongovernmental, local and international – to collaborate together under the same organization umbrella, only for the purpose of having synergic coordination.

Overall, by using the wireless network and the website we have just built, we hope all of us can work effectively and collaboratively, sharing any information with each other through this single network conduit:
